MEASUREMENT OF THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-SECTION AT 0 DEGREES FOR THE REACTION: NEGATIVE PI MESON AND PROTON YIELDS NEUTRAL PI MESON AND NEUTRON,

Abstract

The experiment yields data in the previously unmeasured interval 575-900 MeV/c and in the interval 1320-1680 MeV/c where a discrepancy exists between experimental and theoretical results. This paper gives results for momenta 575-810 MeV/c and descriptions of the experiment and analysis. Values obtained for d (sigma)/d(omega) (0 deg) are: 575 MeV/c - 3.40 plus or minus 0.30 Mb.; 650 MeV/c - 3.18 plus or minus 0.34 Mb.; 757 MeV/c - 2.26 plus or minus 0.21 Mb.; 810 MeV/c - 1.59 plus or minus 0.15 Mb.; in good agreement with recent dispersion relation calculations.
