GENE TRANSFER BY CONJUGATION IN PASTEURELLA,

Abstract

Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis that had accepted the F-lac episome from Escherichia coli K-12 conjugated with several different auxotrophs of P. pseudotuberculosis. The markers leu+, tyr+, thr+, arg+, and his+ were shown to be transferred at frequencies between 10,000 and 100,000 per donor cell. Unselected donor characteristics were obtained in many of the recombinants. The transferred genes were unrelated to the transfer of F-lac or its subsequent loss from the recipient cell. (Author)
