OPTICAL IDENTIFICATION OF RADIO SOURCES IN THE 3C REVISED CATALOG,

Abstract

Radio positions with a mean error of + or - 12'' of arc in both coordinates have been used in a search for optical identifications for small diameter sources in the 3C Revised Catalog. The search has been carried out on the prints and plates which comprise the National Geographic Society-Palomar Observatory Sky Survey. Many new identifications are presented together with the previously published material of other workers. More than 50% of the extragalactic sources in the catalog are now identified while for sources with b sub II 15 degrees the figure is upwards of 69%. About 30% of all the identified extragalactic sources are of the quasi-stellar type. (Author)
