INVESTIGATION OF POROUS LITHIUM BATTERY ELECTRODES.

Abstract

The objective of this program is to investigate methods for producing highly porous lithium electrodes for use in rechargeable spacecraft batteries. Initial work is concerned with attaining two performance curves that were selected from the open literature as laboratory bench-mark achievement goals. Once these first goals are attained, porous lithium structures will be evaluated by comparison with these data. This report describes polarization results for solid lithium electrodes, which meet requirements for one performance goal. Work is continuing toward the second goal of measurement of efficiency of lithium utilization. Also included in this report are technical details on procedures, instrumentation, and apparatus for the electrolytic cell. (Author)
