COHERENT OPTICAL ARRAY TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

Studies are being conducted to determine the feasibility of a coherent optical phased array system. A 1.06 Mu cw laser master oscillator and preamplifier driving a pair of final amplifiers is being developed for the investigation. Operation of a cw Nd:CaW04 laser oscillator using external end mirrors was achieved. Amplifier studies continued with measurements of gain and transverse gain dependence of Nd:CaW04 rods. Both closely coupled and elliptical pump chambers were utilized. A dither phase stabilization servo system has been designed for control of a Mach-Zehnder configuration during the interpulse period. High-energy amplifier pump cavities have been constructed for forthcoming tests. (Author)
