THE CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC ORIENTATION OF SEVERAL MORPHOLOGIES IN THE ZINC - Mg2 Zn11 EUTECTIC

Abstract

The Zn-Mg2Zn11 eutectic can solidify in several different morphologies, all of which have the same general crystallographic orientation relationship. This relationship combines with the preferred growth direction and the rate and direction of heat flow to determine which morphology will predominate.
