PLUS X TYPE 4401 THIN BASE ESTAR FILM TEST.

Abstract

Eastman Kodak Company's Type 4401 (recently changed to Type 3401) Thin Base Estar Plus-X emulsion was tested in the operational environment in which it will most likely be employed. Comparisons were made against the standard base product, Plus-X Type 8401 Film (Mil Type 1B Class A). In most instances the thin base material was found to be equal to and in certain respects superior to the standard base product. It has the obvious advantage of doubling camera magazine footage capacity and can be processed to any given control gamma in a shorter length of time. It cannot be used on a completely interchangeable basis since camera malfunctions occurred in the KS-72A camera due to the thin base. (Author)
