INVESTIGATION OF MICROWAVE PHASE AND TIME DELAY EQUALIZERS.

Abstract

Formulas are derived for the design of waveguide and TEM-line single-resonator equalizers. These formulas are derived in terms of the dimensions and parameters required of the structure in order to yield the desired delay response. Single-resonator equalizers, in which the resonant element is a length of linearly tapered waveguide, are analyzed. An approximate synthesis procedure is developed for the case of low-pass maximally flat prototype filters. A six-element filter of this type is analyzed; moreover, the equalizer developed by these synthesis techniques markedly improved the time-delay response of the filter. A number of waveguide and TEM-mode equalizer structures are discussed that use dielectric resonators. Design formulas are derived for several of the structures. (Author)
