THEORETICAL STUDIES OF HIGH RESOLUTION SPECTRA OF ATMOSPHERIC MOLECULES.

Abstract

A summary report is presented, including reprints of published papers on the interpretation of spectra of the molecules H2O, CO2, CO, and CN, as observed in solar spectra transmitted through the terrestrial atmosphere, at wavelengths greater than 5500A. Topics discussed in detail are the types of perturbations complicating the determination of rotational constants in the asymmetric rotor H2O; the effects of non-rigidity on line and band intensities in that molecule; intensities in CO2, CO, and CN; the calculation and measurement of line widths; and deviations from the Lorentz line shape.
