A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ROLL-ON-ROLL-OFF LIFT-ON-LIFT-OFF CARGO HANDLING OPERATIONS.

Abstract

The roll0on-roll-off and lift-on-lift-off cargo handling concepts have developed rapidly in the transportation field since the early 1950's. The utilization of these two concepts has revolutionized the transportation industry. Based on the information available and the comparative analysis made it can be seen that the economical advantages of the lift-on-lift-off operation are more applicable to commercial transportation, whereas the fast turn-around features of the roll-on-roll-off operation are of particular importance in the logistics field for successful support of military operations.
