AN AIRBORNE GEOMAGNETIC INVESTIGATION OF A REPORTED DECLINATION ANOMALY IN EASTERN PANAMA.

Abstract

In 1963, at the request of the Inter-American Geodetic Survey, a Project MAGNET aircraft surveyed eastern Panama to determine the size and extent of an apparent declination anomaly. A small declination anomaly at flight altitude was detected. Results from total intensity and inclination measurements reflect the presence of exposed igneous rocks of Tertiary Period that make up the Darien Mountains and are exposed along the western portion of Darien Province.
