A STUDY OF ADMINISTRATIVE DATA PROCESSING AT THE U. S. NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL

Abstract

Overloading of the computer facilities is occurring more and more frequently, and a sizeable increase in the number of students is expected. Therefore, a more efficient system is considered desirable. Present users of the interviewed and their functions described and flow diagrammed. Other educational information systems were investigated for possible application at the Postgraduate School. A number of differences between this School and other civilian institutions and several problem areas were revealed in this study. It was concluded that a common data base of information on all personnel connected with the USNPGS would be feasible and would eliminate much duplication of effort in present administrative offices. It was recommended that this common data base be explored further, and that additional research be done on other applications of educational data processing.
