AN X-RAY METHOD FOR FOLLOWING THE PRECIPITATION PROCESS IN POLYCRYSTALLINE ALUMINUM-COPPER.

Abstract

An experimental study has been made of the feasibility of following the precipitation process in a polycrystalline aluminum-2 and 1/2% copper alloy. The intermediate structures formed during ageing were previously determined by single crystal methods. The sequence of structures was followed by analysis of the diffractometer line profile of the alpha(200) peaks. The experimental profiles were corrected for instrumental broadening by the Stokes method. One-dimensional Patterson projections of the electron density distribution in the alloys were synthesized from corrected profiles. The complete sequence of intermediate precipitates could not be realized in this investigation. (Author)
