HIGH POWER LASER AMPLIFIER CHAIN TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

This report discusses activities related to the testing of various components of an optical radar transmitter using the master oscillator-power amplifier (MOPA) concept. The transmitter employs a continuous-wave room-temperature YAG:Nd3+ oscillator, neodymium-doped-glass amplifiers, Kerr-cell modulator, and Faraday isolators and circulator. Also included in this report is a detailed discussion of neodymium-doped hosts and their application in laser components. Various aspects of optical radar were discussed at RADC in February and these data, together with a paper on coherent laser radar, are presented as appendixes to this report. (Author)
