A NOTE ON CALCULATION OF WAVES IN A CYLINDRICAL SHELL,

Abstract

Several techniques for the computation of the relatively long time response of a cylindrical (membrane) shell to longitudinal impact are discussed. Implicit numerical schemes are compared to a purely characteristic scheme and a loss of definition is observed with the implicit schemes. Previously obtained asymptotic results are used to verify the remarks made concerning numerical integration. (Author)
