HARVELL-KILGORE HAND-HELD, ORANGE SMOKE, DISTRESS SIGNALS.

Abstract

Compliance tests were conducted on 24 samples of a hand-held, orange smoke, distress signal, manufactured under Coast Guard Approval 160.037/2/2. The specimens tested were taken from Lot 64, dated September 1965. The samples tested met the requirements of the appropriate Coast Guard specification for operational tests, but failed to meet all the requirements of the technical tests which included ignition, smoke emission characteristics, waterproofing, and environmental tests.
