THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF FABRICS SUBJECTED TO BIAXIAL STRESS: THEORY OF FABRIC STRUCTURES.

Abstract

A theoretical description of the mechanical properties of the plain weave was derived and experimentally verified. This report presents the results of a continuation study, in which the basic theoretical model was simplified and applied to the problem of inflated fabric structures. The mechanical effects of sealants were included in the theory, and a general method was derived for the solution of fabric structure problems. Experiments with plain and sealed fabrics were used to verify the simplified theory and to determine the mechanical effects of sealants. (Author)
