SPACE SIMULATION CHAMBERS AND TECHNIQUES,

Abstract

Twelve papers are presented on the problems of space simulation. Following an introduction (1), the topics duscussed include: (2) the over-all problem of the design and operation of space chambers, (3) the parameters to be considered in simulating a space environment, (4) the simulation of thermal radiation and (5) the heat-sink effect of space, (6) the various types of vacuum pumps, (7) the technique of 'cryopumping', (8) the analysis of the vibrations encountered in space flight, (9) a general program for the detection of leaks, (10) the state-of-the-art of the instrumentation of space chambers, (11) the status of a space-environment simulation chamber in which manned spacecraft will be tested, and (12) the system design of space simulation chambers.
