EVEREADY CG-212 AIR-DEPOLARIZED BATTERIES IN BUOYS.

Abstract

Recent tests indicated that an activated carbon plug was satisfactory in preventing the spillage of electrolyte from wet air-depolarized batteries. Therefore, a limited field test of Type CG-212 air-depolarized batteries in navigational buoys was conducted. In addition, one control string of these batteries was discharged under simulated field conditions. The laboratory control string delivered at least the advertised capacity of this type battery. The batteries placed in buoys delivered less than half the advertised capacity, however, apparently due to internal damage caused by buoy service. Type CG-212 batteries appear suitable for use in powering aids to navigation on shore, but do not appear satisfactory for buoy use. (Author)
