THE EFFECTS OF DESIGN PARAMETERS AND LOCAL FLOW FIELDS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF HYPERFLO SUPERSONIC PARACHUTES AND HIGH DYNAMIC PRESSURE PARACHUTE. CONCEPTS. VOLUME II.

Abstract

Analytical and experimental wind tunnel studies to determine the supersonic wake characteristics of several forebodies were conducted. Studies of the effects of design parameters on Hyperflo parachutes and of high dynamic parachute configurations deployed in such wakes were performed. The results and analysis of the data obtained in these studies are given in Volume I of this report. Wake surveys were conducted to establish wake local flow environments for model parachutes deployed behind the various forebodies and to evaluate possible assymmetry of the wake caused by a forebody side strut mount. Tabulations of the resulting wake survey data, parameters calculated therefrom, plots of these data, and the results of the wake survey probe calibration are given in the present volume of the report.
