SCREENING AND EVALUATION OF LOW-TEMPERATURE, FUEL-RESISTANT ELASTOMERS.

Abstract

This interim report covers the work performed and preliminary results obtained in the screening and evaluation of low temperature fuel resistant elastomers, under the following four phases: Phase I-Screening and evaluation of various elastomers to determine resistance to aromatic fuels and serviceability at temperatures to -65 F; Phase II-Compounding studies of elastomers selected from Phase I work. Studies directed toward improvement of low temperature and fuel resistance properties. (Work to be initiated upon completion of Phase I); Phase III-Evaluation of a compound developed by ERDL, to determine conformance with requirements of MIL G-1086C; Phase IV-Evaluation of resistance of low, medium, and high acrylonitrile rubbers to fuels containing increasing amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons.
