LIQUID ROCKET SYSTEM CONJUGATE STRUCTURE AND TANKAGE PROGRAM.

Abstract

The reference tankage structure has been redesigned to incorporate a standard panel configuration to maximize the cost-effectiveness of roll diffusion bonded sandwich material. Conversion from laboratory to production techniques of this sandwich panel configuration has been verified, through the fabrication of four process development panels. The first two panels were 4 x 5 feet and incorporated both the continuous corrugated core and strip core configuration, for relative cost and quality evaluation. The evaluation indicated the preference of the strip core configuration, and two additional 4 x 5-foot panels have been fabricated to verify the process. Controlled defects were incorporated in one pack for the evaluation of quality assurance techniques. The developmental packs were fabricated and rolled on the 160-inch 4-high mill. The quality of bonding and dimensional control on the developmental packs has been excellent, except for the purge tube end of Pack 3, which leaked. (Author)
