STUDIES ON THE SENSORY BASES OF BEHAVIOR.

Abstract

Four different sensory systems have been studied: the vibration receptor of the spider, the hearing of the barn owl, the photoreceptor of a silkmoth, and the navigation of homing pigeons. The underlying objective of the study was to understand something of the relationship between the behavior of an animal and the capabilities and limitations of its sense organs. In the case of the spiders, owls, and moths, this involved studying the output and capabilities of the sense organ responsible for the observed behavior. (Author)
