NOVEL MICROWAVE FILTER DESIGN TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
Extensive data on normalized inductive susceptance of circular apertures in TE01-mode circular waveguide are presented. The range of data covers ratios of aperture-to-guide diameter of from 0.05 to 0.95, and guide diameter to free-space wavelength of from 1.2 to 2.2. Design tables for Cauer-parameter band-stop transmission-line filters are given. The filters consist of five alternating quarter-wave and half-wave open-circuit stubs separated by quarter-wave lines. A nomogram for the parallel-coupled resonator bandstop filter section is presented. The nomogram is a design aid for stripline filters with asymmetrical coupled lines. Tests of a magnetically tunable bandpass filter using the (210) mode are described. The resonator is a gallium-substituted yttrium iron garnet sphere. The performance over the frequency range 1000 to 3000 Mc is given. An analysis of the test results explains the probable causes of the low measured values of unloaded Q and the spurious resonances observed. A new class of coupled-transmission-line directional couplers having coupled lines of unequal characteristic impedances is described; results of a trial design are discussed. (Author)
