LARGE-AREA ELECTRONIC DISPLAY PANEL.

Abstract

Work was begun to advance the state-of-the-art of Large-Area Electronic Display by developing a new high-resolution electron-beam deformation system for thermoplastic film and a novel optical projection system. A study of the deformation system stability factors, as related to the recording process was conducted to explore means of reducing the presently precise stability requirements. As a result of this study certain electron optical and circuit changes are being implemented to achieve the required focus uniformity at the 3,000 scan line resolution. A means of overcoming the difficult stability problems associated with single-frame writing was conceived and successfully tested. Continued work on the dynamic corrective waveform generator has improved the shape of the outputs. This work has shown the method for overcoming corrective waveform generator circuit delay to produce synchronous corrective waveforms. The basic feasibility was shown of a shearing-oil film tape transport mechanism. A general design for the 70 mm tape transport was completed. (Author)
