COMMUNICATIONS CABLE FOR TROPICAL JUNGLE USE.

Abstract

Phase III upgrading of the Phase II communications cable for arctic, temperate, and tropical environments began with the screening of Phase II materials for serviceability at low temperature. A test was devised to simulate field handling at low temperature. Preliminary results are compared for various constructions and materials at - 40 C, and indicate that conductor flexibility has an important influence. Continuing with the same packaging concept, proposed materials, and design modifications are discussed. The problem of welding the package parts is explained and experiments are described. (Author)
