PHOSPHIMIDAZOLENE POLYMERS.

Abstract

Simple low molecular weight model compounds containing the phosphimidazolene were prepared from o-diamines and phosphorus dichlorides or diamides. Attempts to prepare polymers containing this ring structure, either by linking together preformed rings or by a simultaneous ring closure polymerization reaction between an aromatic tetra-amine and a bis(phosphonic dichloride), or a bis(phosphonic diamide), gave incomplete reactions and cross-linking. The polymers obtained were in general brittle infusible solids and hydrolytically unstable. The preparation of some new diphosphorus compounds is described. (Author)
