PROPERTY DETERMINATIONS FOR CFW GRAPHITE.

Abstract

Data for deriving design criteria for 103-inch diameter grade CFW graphite are presented. Ambient temperature data are presented to show both within-billet and billet-to-billet variations for each property, and high-temperature data to show billet-to-billet variations. Summaries of ambient and high-temperature data are also presented. The method used to radiographically inspect the billets, the sampling technique, and test methods is described. A correlation study was made between specimen density and various properties and between specimen structure, as revealed by X-ray radiography, and test results. A limited number of tests were made to show the relationship between flexural properties and size of the flexural specimen. (Author)
