REGULATION OF METABOLISM IN WORKING MUSCLE IN VIVO. II. CONCENTRATIONS OF ADENINE NUCLEOTIDES, ARGININE PHOSPHATE, AND INORGANIC PHOSPHATE IN INSECT FLIGHT MUSCLE DURING FLIGHT.
Abstract
Concentrations of ATP, ADP, AMP, arginine-P, and Pi in flight muscle of the blowfly (Phormia regina) were measured concurrently after flight periods ranging from 5 sec to 1 hr. At the onset of contraction, ATP and arginine-P concentrations decreased, whereas those of ADP, Pi, and especially AMP, increased. The pattern of changes in these phosphates agrees with the postulated mechanism of glycolytic regulation at the P-fructokinase step. (Author)
