RESEARCH INTO NEW APPROACHES FOR VHF FILTER CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The fabrication of 10 Mc fundamental mode and 60 Mc 3rd harmonic mode samples was completed. The samples consist of multi-electrode resonators, two per wafer, one of which has been tuned by depositing a dielectric layer over both the electroded and surrounding unelectroded wafer. Resonator parameters and frequency response are compared before and after tuning. Dielectric tuning techniques and the effect of the dielectric layer on the frequency and temperature stability of AT-cut quartz resonators are also mentioned. The experiments in which resonator Q sub m is observed as a function of electrode length and compared with predicted results have not yielded any new data. The delay, inpart, has resulted from the difficulty in obtaining suitable twin free quartz blanks. (Author)
