CONSTANT OBLIQUE FIELD ELECTROSTATIC GENERATOR.

Abstract

Studies were made to prove that substantial power may be obtained from the brushless oblique field electrostatic generator operated in a vacuum environment. Such a goal is dictated by the requirement for a space power supply which would be capable of high rotating speed, operation at high temperature, high power-to-weight ratio and high efficiency. The models of the electrostatic generators which have been built previously have either shown encouraging power-to-weight ratios in a gaseous environment or have shown the potential of high efficiency, but found unacceptable by virtue of a very low power-to-weight ratio. This report summarizes the principle of operation of the generator, describes the analytical work accomplished and gives some of the test data which were obtained with a preliminary model. (Author)
