LOW MAGNETIC SATURATION GARNETS.

Abstract

BiCaVIG single crystals was grown to 3/4-in. in size. A substantial reduction in dendritic growth of the crystals was achieved by using prolonged temperature soak periods. Reductions in linewidths of up to 31% were accomplished by heat treatment of polished spheres of BiCaVIG to 1050 degrees for 10 minutes. Small single crystals of YCaVIG were grown. Polycrystalline single phase samples were prepared of Bi sub 3-2yCa sub 2yV sub yFE sub 5-yO12 for y = 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4, and Y sub 3-2xCa sub 2xV sub xFe sub 5-xO12 for x = 1.2. The loss tangents at X-Band for all single phase materials were measured to be less than 0.0001. The process used for preparing single phase material is described. Linewidth, 4 pi M sub s, and g factor are presented for all materials prepared this quarter. Photomicrographs of single phase and polyphase materials are also shown. (Author)
