HIGH-POWER MAGNETRON INJECTION GUN NOISE STUDY.

Abstract

The d-c characteristics of hollow space-charge flow were considered for the case in which the electron velocities are not negligible with respect to the velocity of light. Transmission-line equations are developed for the r-f current density and the r-f voltage in a one-dimensional relativistic electron beam. The Poisson cell analysis of a Kino-type magnetron injection gun (MIG) indicated appreciable cycloidal and rotational motion of the electrons in the gun region under space-charge-free conditions. Some minor errors were discovered in the digital computer analysis program for the MIG and steps were taken to correct the program. A simple, direct solution of Poisson's equation was developed for an axially symmetric configuration. The fabrication of the experimental MIG continued, with slight modifications in the original design. (Author)
