EROSION PROPERTIES OF SELECTED TURBINE MATERIALS IN WATER AND POTASSIUM.

Abstract

During this phase of the SNAP 50/SPUR materials investigation, a test apparatus was successfully designed to qualitatively screen various materials for elevated-temperature liquid potassium erosion characteristics. Tests conducted in ambient-temperature water and 1400 F liquid potassium proved that the apparatus was successful as an erosion screening tool. The liquid- potassium tests indicate the Mo-base alloys to be superior in erosion resistance to the Nb base alloys or the Ta-base alloys tested. Ten alloys were evaluated in potassium, and six were evaluated in water. (Author)
