ON RECIPROCITY IN GENERAL LINEAR VISCOELASTICITY.

Abstract

A reciprocal theorem is developed for a time-variable, linear viscoelastic body whose mechanical properties are governed by a single aging time function. The reciprocal relation obtained is of the Maxwell-Betti type, but it involves a convolution in time over a family of histories of mechanical states, rather than over a single history. A simple application of the theorem is made, to deduce a formula for the total volume change of a time-variable viscoelastic body. (Author)
