EFFECTIVE POROSITY OF RIBBON GRIDS.

Abstract

The effective porosity of practically rigid steel ribbon and more elastic nylon ribbon grids of various geometric construction and geometric porosities was measured. In all cases the effective porosity of nylon ribbon grids was higher than the one of a comparable rigid grid. It was shown that the variation of nylon grids was caused through elastic deformation. For a few steel ribbon grids, a discharge coefficient was calculated which varied between 0.6 and 0.7 in the incompressible region and approached a limiting value of 0.8 in the compressible range.
