A METHOD FOR ESTIMATING THE CAPABILITIES OF ARTILLERY SYSTEMS.

Abstract

This project was undertaken as part of a study which attempts to synthesize an optimum family of field artillery. Tables allow an estimate of the effect on ammunition expenditure of adding some new weapon type to a historical family. It is also desirable to know what reduction in the number of each type of weapon present in the family may result from the addition of this new weapon. This reduction is a function of the time and space distribution of the missions. It is a major part of the more general problem of substitutability among weapons within a family. The method presented in this paper determines the ability of any weapon or family of weapons to fire any series of fire missions and gives additional information concerning weapon usage. (Author)
