Abstract
Creative thinking has increasingly been the subject of research in recent years. This study attempts to outline the evolution of knowledge concerning creativity, with particular emphasis on that having practicable application. The utilization of creative thinking in the industrial, educational, and military fields is reviewed. The various proven techniques of enhancing creativity are discussed, together with methods in use to train personnel to use these techniques. The general areas in which the Navy has an apparent need for creativity are pointed out. Broad general conclusions are drawn and recommendations for improvement of the Navy's efforts in these areas are offered. (Author)
