GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC METHODS FOR LIQUID PROPELLANT ANALYSIS.
Abstract
This report outlines the results of a study to consider the application of gas chromatographic methods for analysis to the three propellant systems, 50:50 unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine-hydrazine, chlorine trifluoride, and nitrogen tetroxide. Polyethylene glycol 400 on anakrom B is concluded to be best suited for analysis of components on the hydrazine system. The use of liquid sampling, subambient column temperatures, and hydrogen fluoride doped carrier gas appears to eliminate the problems associated with chromatographic analysis of chlorine trifluoride. A method to determine NO, CO2, N2O, and NOCl in nitrogen tetroxide is suggested. (Author)
