PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF A NOVEL POLY -S- TRIAZINYLENEIMIDE.

Abstract

Polymers with R1 being -C6H5, -CH3, -OC6H5, -NHC6H5, and -C1, and R2 being -H, -CH3, -C2H5, and -C6H5 have been described earlier. It was believed that polymer chains with R1 being -H would allow closer packing and would have higher softening ranges and thermal stabilities. No polymers of this type, and only a few monomers, which are difficult to synthesize, are known. While no homopolymer of the desired structure could be obtained, the copolymer triazinyleneimide has been prepared from 2,4-dichloro-s-triazine with 2,4-dianilido-6-phenyl-s-triazine as well as from 2,4-dianilido-s-triazine with 2,4-dichloro-6-phenyl-s-triazine. Softening range and thermal stability of this copolymer, as expected, is higher than that of the 6-phenyl substituted homopolymer; the molecular weight, however, is only around 2000. (Author)
