CYCLIZATIONS OF 2-CYANO-3-SUBSTITUTED CINNAMONTRILES.
Abstract
Synthesis and cyclization of 5,5-dicyano-4-phenyl-4-pentenoic acid and ethyl 2-carbethoxy-5,5-dicyano-2-hydroxyl -4-phenyl -4-pentenoate are studied. Cyclization of the above 2-cyano-3-substituted cinnamonitriles in sulfuric acid yields 2-carboxamido-3- (2-carbethoxy) -1-indenone and 2-carboxamido-3- (2-carboxy-2-hydroxy -ethylidene)-2-indanone, respectively.
