TURBOFAN-RAMJET ENGINE STUDIES. VOLUME V - FLOW MIXER STUDIES.

Abstract

One characteristic of the combined turbofan-ramjet engine is the flow mixer located in the annular duct surrounding the turbojet. The mixing of fan and ram flows between the fan exit and the combustion chamber was considered first theoretically and then experimentally. The experimental work studied various diffuser configurations, types of flaps for separation controlling the two flows, and devices to improve mixing such as boundary layer suction bleed or vortex generators. Single flow cases, either pure ramjet or pure turbofan, also have been investigated. (Author)
