CORRELATION OF LAMINAR SKIN-FRICTION CALCULATIONS.

Abstract

Current methods available for the correlation of flat-plate laminar skin-friction solutions are compared with each other and with exact numerical solutions and found to be considerably in error, especially at high Mach numbers. The average enthalpy is calculated exactly by numerical integration of boundary-layer profiles and found to agree with exact reference enthalpy calculations for the case of an adiabatic wall. A correlation expression based on the average enthalpy modified to account for heat-transfer rate is proposed and found to give excellent agreement with exact solutions including the case of a dissociated real gas. The flat-plate correlation expression is found to give good agreement with pressure-gradient solutions. (Author)
