ATOMIC COLLISION PROCESSES RELATING TO THE IONOSPHERE.

Abstract

Electron beam experiments have been performed to improve our understanding of upper atmosphere collision processes, Vibrational excitation has been studied in N2. Negative ion formation in H2 has been observed, proceeding via the same compound state which causes vibrational excitation in H2. From the isotope effect, the lifetime of the H2(-) compound state is deduced. (Author)
