THE PREPARATION OF SYNTHETIC MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE AND SOME OF ITS PROPERTIES.

Abstract

Molybdenum disulfide, as a solid lubricant or in suspension with liquid lubricants, is widely used in many areas of modern technology. Having in mind the complex exploitation of indigenous molybdenite the authors decided to deal with the problem of preparation of molybdenum disulfide. The literature on this subject indicates several processes for obtaining molybdenum disulfide by chemical (synthetic) means based on the reactions between molybdenum trioxide or various molybdates with elementry sulfur. The most profitable of these reactions seems to be that between sodium molybdate and elementary sulfur. (Author)
