WAVE PROPAGATION IN AN ELASTIC CYLINDER.

Abstract

The method of characteristics for problems in three independent variables is applied to the longitudinal (symmetric) impact of an elastic rod on a smooth surface. The initial response is computed explicitly and numerical integration is used to obtain the field for arbitrary values of time. (Author)
