DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF FIFTEEN GALLON PROPELLANT VESSELS FOR TANK STORABILITY PROGRAM.

Abstract

This report presents the results of the design (Phase I) and manufacture (Phase II) of 15-gallon small scale tankage which will be used to explore material compatibility with specific storable propellants under actual long-term storage conditions. Typical stressed welded joints as used on full-scale vessels are included in the design. Tanks were fabricated from the following materials: Aluminum Alloys 2014-T6 and 6061-T6, Stainless Steel AM 350 SCT and Titanium Alloy 5 Al - 2.5 Sn. The storable propellants are 98% H2O2, N2O4, ClF3 and Compound A. A reliability analysis and prediction of MTBF is included. (Author)
