ELECTRONICALLY TUNABLE PARAMETRIC AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

The development of the 30 to 40 GHZ parametric down converter is proceeding on schedule, in spite of difficulties encountered in obtaining suitable varactor diodes. A theoretical analysis of the optimum operating conditions for a two-port parametric amplifier has been performed and the results presented in a general graphical form which is useful for design at all frequencies. The development of the necessary low-temperature input and output circulators is complete and the development of a new technique for obtaining a broad-band signal circuit has been initiated. A voltage-tuned backward wave oscillator with sufficient output power for use as a pump source is not commercially available at this time, although OKI expects that some later model tubes may achieve adequate output powers. Consequently, a mechanically-tuned klystron will be used for the pump source. (Author)
