A STUDY OF ELECTRONICALLY TUNABLE MICROWAVE (X-BAND) GENERATORS.

Abstract

A compact X-band source that generates 150 mw and has a volume of 8 cubic inches has been constructed. Because the proper transistor driver is still being developed, a pencil-tube oscillator having the same approximate size has been used. Small broadband multipliers have been fabricated with stripline techniques. Transistor drivers that use a coaxial cavity output circuit have demonstrated the capability for single-control tuning over a 10-percent band. When these drivers are modified for operation with the available multipliers, it is anticipated that 250 mw can be generated at 10 GHz with an over-all DC-to-RF efficiency of five percent. (Author)
