SOLID STATE IMAGE INTENSIFIER PANELS.

Abstract

This investigation concentrated on a theoretical analysis and evaluation of 'state-of-the-art' devices and operational parameters of image intensifier panels and image intensifier tube preamplifiers useful for night sky illuminated terrain. The sensitivity, size, spectral response and speed of zinc counterdoped silicon photoconductors, the emissivity and efficiency of electroluminor diodes and the g sub m factor of MOSTs in the appropriate dynamic ranges were related to the operating parameter of the proposed panels. While additional developments in all three stages are necessary, the feasibility of replacing the 'old-art' dielectrics with semiconductor materials and techniques appears quite promising. (Author)
